Church congregation in front of church sometime in the 1940's.
Church activities in the Littlesburg community began a few years before the Civil War, around 1850
in a log cabin style building called the Dillon Church. Worship services were held for many years
in the Dillon Church by the Baptist, Brethren, Methodist Episcopal, and Methodist Episcopal South Churches.
The building was also used as a public school for several years.
1970's-2009 Church Building
Members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South obtained a parcel of land from John Shrader in 1874 and began building
on the site where New Salem United Methodist Church now stands. This first building was torn down and around
1898 the sanctuary of New Salem was built which is still in existence today. In the early fifties, the basement and
Sunday school rooms were added and in 1978 the fellowship hall was constructed.
The construction and rennovation of the church.
2009 brought a complete renovation/expansion of the original sanctuary, including a new entryway, and the addition of more Sunday school rooms.
New Salem UMC as of present day.
Over the decades many improvements and additions have been made to the “little white church on the hill”.
However, no improvement or addition has ever been so great as the love of God for the congregation of New Salem.
Regardless of how the building changes, God has continued to bless and to hold the congregation of New Salem in His hands.
